The trekयात्रा

We fly to Lukla and walk up the Dudh Koshi to Namche Bazaar, the Sherpa trading town where the trail turns towards Everest.

The pace is the point. We sleep at Namche and Dingboche twice, because the body needs the rest days more than the itinerary needs the speed.

From Gorak Shep we walk to Base Camp and, the next morning, climb Kala Patthar for the view of Everest itself, which you cannot see from Base Camp.

Highlights

  • Two acclimatisation days, at Namche and Dingboche
  • Sunrise over Everest from Kala Patthar, 5,644 m
  • Tengboche monastery at evening prayers
  • A spare day in Kathmandu for Lukla flight delays

Questionsप्रश्न

What happens if the Lukla flight is cancelled?

Weather cancels Lukla flights often. The spare day at the end absorbs one delay; beyond that we rebook, and a shared helicopter is available at extra cost.

How hard is it?

Most days are five to seven hours on foot. The difficulty is altitude, not technique: no climbing skills are needed, but you should be comfortable walking for a week straight.
